Unmanned Life is part of the Netherlands State Visit

On Wednesday 24th of October, the UK-Netherlands Innovation Showcase was displayed before their Majesties the King and Queen of the Netherlands, and their Royal Highnesses the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

This was part of the Netherlands State Visit, the most significant and biggest meeting between the Royal Houses of the United Kingdom and the Netherlands in forty years, since the previous State visit in 1982. Unmanned Life was one of just three British companies hand picked from the entire Kingdom to represent the best of cutting-edge British Innovation.

Thanks to the support of the Department for International Trade and the Lord Mayor of London  Peter Estlin for their generous inclusion in this historic moment. Alongside Ohbot and 3D by Flow, Unmanned Life showcased their unique and global award-winning Autonomy-as-a-Service software platform, in a special pod as part of the Innovation Showcase. The autonomous mission management capable by the state-of-the-art innovative architecture was the subject of admiration and interest by both royal families and the politicians present. His Majesty the Dutch King Willem-Alexander as well as the UK Minister for Investment Graham Stuart, were especially interested in the technology and its disruptive potential across sectors.

The Minister for Investment, Graham Stuart and Andrew Mitchell, the HTMC for Europe together organized the UK-Netherlands Innovation Showcase as a key part of the Dutch State Visit.

The Netherlands and the United Kingdom have together more than £350 million invested in each other’s economies. In 2016 alone, the Netherlands totaled £212.2 billion in UK inward Foreign Direct Investment stock, and the United Kingdom is the second biggest investor in the Netherlands.

The countries share both strong economic ties, and deep cultural connections. The Netherlands has more students in UK universities than any other country and are currently displaying British art at two Dutch museum exhibitions.

The State visit by the Royal House of the Netherlands to the United Kingdom took place on the 23rd and 24th of October 2018. His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima will paid the state visit to the United Kingdom at the invitation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The visit focused on the partnership between the two countries, including common social challenges, peace and security, military cooperation, and the economy and innovation.

The first day comprised of a ceremony, special exhibition in Buckingham Palace, tour of Westminster Abbey, the Dutch King will address the Houses of Parliament and a state banquet.

The second day focused on economic cooperation and most importantly innovation. The day began with a State breakfast with the London Mayor and Charles Bowman, and the UK Minister for Investment, Department for International Trade, Graham Stuart gave a speech.

The state officials and Royal families present focused on themes such as artificial intelligence, sustainable production, modern mobility, and were highly impressed by the Innovation Showcase, which took place in the Mansion House, kindly hosted by Peter Estlin.

For Unmanned Life to be one of only 3 companies in the entire nation, chosen to participate in this event, cannot be underestimated or overemphasized. The event was of critical importance at a political, cultural and economic level, and the selection of Unmanned Life demonstrates not only the government recognition and support, but the national pride, in our innovative and disruptive technology.

The #NetherlandsStateVisit is over, but the implications will have ripple effects for both the economies and cultural partne

rships of both North Sea neighbours, strengthening the existing ties and forging future deals. Already, 500 jobs have been safeguarded or created through new deals in FinTech, clean growth and the digital sector.

For Unmanned Life, it was an iconic and proud moment, to have been the highly esteemed national treasure chosen to showcase the best of British Innovation.
