London (United Kingdom), 8th November 2021 – Unmanned Life showcased its Autonomous Search and Rescue Product operating over BT’s 5G network at BT’s Adastral Park. The demonstration, which is part of the second phase of the GSMA Telco Edge Cloud (TEC), was organised in partnership with BT, the United Kingdom’s largest broadband and mobile service provider, and GSMA, the global organisation that unifies the mobile ecosystem.

TEC is the global initiative to expose, manage and market Edge Computing resources and capabilities across different networks and national boundaries that started early this year in Madrid. Through this demo, the partners showcased how Unmanned Life’s AI enabled, robotic orchestration platform can be used to enhance citizen safety. This was a small preview of Unmanned Life’s autonomous application to highlight its capabilities that can enable a more impactful and compelling deployment at a much larger scale in a real-world scenario.

Unmanned Life showcased its AI enabled platform through key product features such as seamless orchestration of heterogeneous robotic swarms, intelligent and dynamic mission management, real time / live video streaming from the drones, and citizen detection through video analytics, all wrapped into a user-friendly central interface. A key enabler of Unmanned Life’s Autonomous Search and Rescue product is BT’s 5G network; high bandwidth and low latency communications and data flow (I.e., High-Definition Video) are paramount in achieving the ultimate outcome of saving lives.

Expanding on the opportunity, Unmanned Life highlighted the union between 5G network and successful deployments to tackle citizen safety challenges in an ever-evolving Smart City landscape. Unmanned Life’s Autonomous Robotic Orchestration Platform combined with BT’s 5G network demonstrates how autonomous robotics can be leveraged to support first responders in saving lives.

Maria Cuevas, BT’s Head of Mobility Research, said: “It is critical that we work collaboratively with key industry partners to deliver fully managed end-to-end solutions for our customers. Projects like this help us to understand the key technical requirements, opportunities and challenges associated with offering autonomous control solutions to meet our customers’ needs. Our work with Unmanned Life and the rest of the partners in this project has shown that there are exciting opportunities in this space.”

Within the demonstration, two autonomous drones were used to conduct a search and rescue mission in an indoor environment. The search drone scanned the demo area searching for a person in distress (represented by a life-sized figurine). The video feed from the search drone was analyzed by Unmanned Life’s object detection algorithms, the information of which was shared with the operator. Once the detection occurred, the rescue drone automatically flew to the exact location and delivered a life jacket to save the victim.

By managing the end-to-end process from search, identification to providing effective response, we ensure:

  • Accurate assessment of the emergency incident.
  • Faster response time
  • Lower costs

But this was just a scaled down version of the Emergency Search and Rescue application demonstrated in an indoor space. Unmanned Life’s software platform technology can deploy, Control, and orchestrate autonomous fleet of drones for emergency response at a much larger scale offering a fast and efficient solution for saving lives together with the first responders.

Our objective is to raise awareness about the GSMA Telco Edge Cloud validating capabilities like swarm control, image recognition and machine learning, all deployed on the edge and how 5G and AI are key enablers of the autonomous future. By displaying examples and successful deployments, we want to disseminate the latest results of our partnership-led initiatives with large telecom operators and end users. This event will give our company additional visibility within the UK allowing our business team to use this event as a springboard to find potential customers and sell its products.

“It was a pleasure to demonstrate our technology in an historic place for British technology and innovation such as Adastral Park. We are very pleased with this cooperation with BT which demonstrates how Unmanned Life vision to become the go-to-software for the seamless orchestration of robotics is one step closer to reality. We can’t wait to take the relationship with BT to the next level” said Nicholas Zylberglajt, CEO of Unmanned Life.
