Unmanned Life part of GSMA Telco Edge cloud service trails
Unmanned Life is honored to be a part of GSMA Telco Edge Cloud (TEC) pre-commercial 2021 trials.
Unmanned Life is honored to be a part of GSMA Telco Edge Cloud (TEC) pre-commercial 2021 trials. TEC is a global initiative to expose, manage and market Edge Computing resources and capabilities across different networks and national boundaries based on a combination of open technologies and telco standards. As part of the operator platform group, BT and Telefónica have collaborated to run a multi-operator and multi-location trial in partnership with Unmanned Life and MobiledgeX.
“Our aim is to demonstrate the value for operators like Telefonica and BT, to exploit and monetize our edge cloud compute capabilities by enabling companies like Unmanned Life to offer innovative services to our customers.” María Cuevas Ramírez, Principal Manager Research British Telecom
Under the umbrella of GSMA TEC, our Autonomy-as-a-Service platform served as the application running in an edge cloudlet, deployed on top of Telefonica’s Virtual Data center to simulate an autonomous drone-based emergency response use case. The ultimate objective was to demonstrate that for an application developer such as Unmanned Life, it is possible to launch the same app onto multiple TEC environments, provided by different operators, using a common aggregation platform solution such as the one being defined by the GSMA Operator Platform Group.
“Operators are partnering with hyperscalers to bring all the benefits of the public cloud in terms of efficency, agility, functionality and ecosystem to the edge.” Juan Carlos García, Director of technology development & Ecosystem, CTIO Telefonica
The demonstration was recently showcased at Telefonica headquarters in Madrid, on a small scale, but containing all the building blocks required to deploy the full-scale solution, validating capabilities like swarm control, image recognition and machine learning, all deployed on the edge. The same demo will be run in BT later this year.
